Since 1989, I have primarily worked with children, adolescents, and their families, as well as adults to address a variety of emotional and behavioral problems. With individuals, my therapeutic style is primarily cognitive/behavioral but also includes relationship oriented methods.
When the presenting complaints center around the behavioral difficulties of children, my primary relationship to the family often becomes more like "coach" rather than "therapist". At times, individual therapeutic work with the child and/or parent is used as an adjunct to behavior management training.
In addition to psychotherapy and counseling, I have an extensive background in psychological assessment with children, adolescents and adults, including evaluation of learning disabilities, emotional and psychological problems, and personality style. Technical jargon is minimized so that reports are understandable to parents and school staff while providing needed information to other professionals such as psychiatrists, primary care physicians, and other psychotherapists.
